Apollo Architects and Associates :: EDGE House, Sendai
This perfectly sculpted reinforced concrete ‘EDGE’ House was created but the Japanese Architecture firm Apollo Architects & associates for their client namely
a middle aged couple and their son, located in Sendai, Japan.
The corner lot sets the scene for an interesting site, which of course is prone to high levels of traffic. The major issue for any architect trying to create a comfy and quiet home. So to resolve this the architects created a surrounding perimeter fence. Yes fence, but when we hear the word fence we usually envisage painted planks of wood but this isn’t just any fence it is actually a part of the building itself. The reinforced concrete plain outer wall has been covered in photocatalytic paint, to stay true to the overall aesthetic composition.
The building itself houses an open kitchen and dining space which faces the front yard
and the living room, which leads to the outside deck space.
Outside you will find a small courtyard together with steps that lead to the upper section of the house which then becomes the entrance hall and functions as the centre of the house. Not forgetting the balconies and a very desirable rooftop garden.
All-in-all a house I wouldn’t mind living in or creating for myself mind you.
