Soyez inspirés !

= Be Inspired

So I’ve been wondering why people in Japan seem so content with the statement “Fashion over Style“. So me being me I had to get some objective opinions so I thought I’d ask a few people in the ‘fashion’ industry and they confirmed what I suspected.

Alot of people in japan don’t have their own opinion or inspiration so they use Fashion or current trends that are popular to fit in with the rest of the majority.”

Fashion fades, only style remains the same.” – COCO CHANEL

In the case of ‘style’ this is a mode of self expression and in Japan the majority of people still tend to shy away from creating their own impression on others as, (don’t get me wrong I’m Japanese and of course their are others like myself who use fashion to create our own style, but they are few and far between.) they don’t want to stand out. Expressing yourself and being Unique is still seen in a very negative light in japan.”
(Of course fashion industry people are excluded). That’s very interesting, because the word unique to me is a very positive opinion and something I strive to achieve. What’s the positive outcome of being like someone else…?

In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” – COCO CHANEL

What do you think?
I agree a lot of people follow fashion, there’s no doubt about that, but why do so Many people DOUBT THEMSELVES therefore won’t take risks to create their own identity, it’s quite disappointing. Then again I’m reminded that JAPAN is the best at innovation. I’ve seen this first hand of course ideas being Imitated and passed off as an original concept in some form or other.

It’s quite amusing really.
At the same time, who really comes up with new, fresh ideas these days?

“Only those with no memory inisist on their originality.” – COCO CHANEL

That’s why I’m beginning to read far less fashion blogs & more blogs that HIGHLIGHT  musicians, celebs, Style, current issues as Fashion blogs especially CHICM&Fashiont to name a few are great examples of each other. But look the same! **snooze**

So who came first? Does it really matter… but with Bloggers becoming “celebs” these days don’t we need some talent behind the ‘copy and paste’ and blank stares in designer outfits?
AFTER THAT GREAT DISCUSSION, I feel like I understand Japanese people a little, well more than before. I still have so much more to grasp…
Anyway for all of my creative buddies here: Rathermakeart, Tokyogrindhouse, MPmag, 584584, idai store and I just L.O.V.E tokyodandy check them all out!

  1. We are all the combined effort of everybody we’ve ever known. We can’t create something unique out of a vacuum. We have to get ideas from what we see and that’s how we create things. I guess in a sense it is possible to be original, but the originality comes from an inspiration.
By the way, I agree; a lot of the blogs that I see on the internet are also tediously repetitive. Maybe I’m also one of those people who write about things which are boring and unoriginal, but at least I write about what I truly like and care about. You can always tell if someone is writing about something that they think they ‘should’.

Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate when people voice their opinions in any shape or form. I’ll take a look at your blog later. Keep writing about what you care about, you can never go wrong there!

The reason I came to Tokyo was to be inspired & fulfil my dreams of becoming a designer… Be inspired & Be creative

      • That’s great! I hope everything works out for you ( ゚ヮ゚) My blog is shared by my friend Mary-Lou and I, and she’s also from Tokyo. What type of Japanese fashion are you into?

  2. Thanks! I just started a new blog with my friend so it’s really empty.. haha. How is Japan for you?

I’m so glad I chose to move to Tokyo and not New York it truly is a completely different work over here. I’m learning everyday and wouldn’t chain this experience for the world.
I use my blog as an online diary. But alot of the posts are fashion&style related with music pop ups!
I was really interested in “kawaii” fashion before I came, and shopped at 109 alot but I’ve always been into vintage clothing since raiding my mums wardrobe when I was younger.
So personal Style is a big thing for me too. How about you?

      • Hey, that’s awesome; we have a lot in common! I’m 15 and I still raid my mum’s wardrobe haha 🙂
I like kawaii accessories, not so much fashion. Although, I like reading Gyaru fashion magazines like PopSister.
You should do outfit posts! I’m coming around to that.. hopefully. Maybe when there is less stress at school and when the weather is not such a pain in the arse. It’s been like a consecutive 40 degrees here in Australia!

Yeah I used to do a post called “Crack my style” but I wanted to incorporate more of my lifestyle in Tokyo so I just take snaps when I’m out and about these days!
Keep checking my blog because I will post & advise on shops I like etc.
