= Be Inspired
So I’ve been wondering why people in Japan seem so content with the statement “Fashion over Style“. So me being me I had to get some objective opinions so I thought I’d ask a few people in the ‘fashion’ industry and they confirmed what I suspected.
“Alot of people in japan don’t have their own opinion or inspiration so they use Fashion or current trends that are popular to fit in with the rest of the majority.”
“Fashion fades, only style remains the same.” – COCO CHANEL
“In the case of ‘style’ this is a mode of self expression and in Japan the majority of people still tend to shy away from creating their own impression on others as, (don’t get me wrong I’m Japanese and of course their are others like myself who use fashion to create our own style, but they are few and far between.) they don’t want to stand out. Expressing yourself and being Unique is still seen in a very negative light in japan.”
(Of course fashion industry people are excluded). That’s very interesting, because the word unique to me is a very positive opinion and something I strive to achieve. What’s the positive outcome of being like someone else…?
“In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” – COCO CHANEL
What do you think?
I agree a lot of people follow fashion, there’s no doubt about that, but why do so Many people DOUBT THEMSELVES therefore won’t take risks to create their own identity, it’s quite disappointing. Then again I’m reminded that JAPAN is the best at innovation. I’ve seen this first hand of course ideas being Imitated and passed off as an original concept in some form or other.
It’s quite amusing really.
At the same time, who really comes up with new, fresh ideas these days?
“Only those with no memory inisist on their originality.” – COCO CHANEL
That’s why I’m beginning to read far less fashion blogs & more blogs that HIGHLIGHT musicians, celebs, Style, current issues as Fashion blogs especially CHICM&Fashiont to name a few are great examples of each other. But look the same! **snooze**
So who came first? Does it really matter… but with Bloggers becoming “celebs” these days don’t we need some talent behind the ‘copy and paste’ and blank stares in designer outfits?
AFTER THAT GREAT DISCUSSION, I feel like I understand Japanese people a little, well more than before. I still have so much more to grasp…
Anyway for all of my creative buddies here: Rathermakeart, Tokyogrindhouse, MPmag, 584584, idai store and I just L.O.V.E tokyodandy check them all out!
